The majority of New Year’s resolutions are made up of breaking bad habits and creating new good habits. In our Get Healthy Challenge, that’s what we are mainly trying to do. And it’s the hardest thing to do. Together, though, it’s easier.
Right from the get-go I will say that weather can be a drag! Check out this thermometer! It’s hard to motivate for anything outside with this temp! I’m lucky that I can plan my outdoor activity around the sun and wait until the temperature rises a bit. Last week Chris shared her ideas for when the weather is less than pleasant. What do you do if it’s uncomfortable to go outside and exercise? [Read more…]

Well, we’ve started the Get Healthy Challenge. It’s hard to start something new. It’s especially hard when there are so many “good” things we pass by – the microwave popcorn, the leftover Christmas cakes and pies…. [Read more…]
It’s time to get fit! Who is in? We talk about it all the time and I’m sick of talking and ready to start DOING…
Emily: Ok, Christina, I’m calling you out! Here’s a Get Healthy New Year Challenge. A new year is upon us, and we both have talked about wanting to get healthier. I figure: we make this public, we’ll HAVE to do it. Right?? So what do you say?
Christina: Sounds good! I’ve been dragging my feet and my California trip for February is coming up fast. May as well make it public… ugh, but let’s do this!
Have you tried juicing yet? It’s a tasty, easy way to get the nutrition you need without having to come up with a week’s worth of meals. Whether you’re new to juicing or have been doing it for a while, the Magic Bullet Pro 900 is a necessary appliance for your kitchen. Emily and I got together last month and one of our purchases was the Magic Bullet. We were both so excited and even more so when our significant others agreed to jump on board having a shake a day with us! Bill and I have even graduated to having 2 a day and have noticed an increase in our energy and a decrease in our bellies. We couldn’t be happier with it! Here’s our Magic Bullet Pro 900 Review if you have been on the fence about it.

Challenged by my sister Chris to come up with a healthy brownie recipe a few weeks ago after she published her own healthy brownie recipe, I came up with this pumpkin brownies recipe. Knowing me well, Chris nailed it when she said that I’m an organic, natural kinda person. I like that she makes me think and urges me outside my comfy box, but — gee! I’ve got stuff going on and little time to come up with a wa-zoo recipe! Ah, the pressure….
Being the season for pumpkins, I knew my first healthy ingredient! In addition, adding veggies to dessert makes it healthy automatically in my opinion. Right? Right?
Anyway, following is my Healthy Pumpkin Brownies Recipe in response to her challenge.
Healthy brownie recipe? Really? Is there such a thing? Maybe, but do they taste as good as the real thing? I’m here to say, YES, THEY DO!
Emily and I differ on recipes like this. Just be warned… she is a very natural, organic type of person and I am a “if it tastes good, I like it!” type of person. She would frown on the artificial sweetener portion of this recipe so I challenge her to give me her BEST all natural ingredient brownies that are still healthy in calories. Think she will? Hmmm…
Emily chiming in here: I have accepted Chris’s challenge. You can compare this recipe with mine and let us know which recipe is your favorite. I do strive to use all natural ingredients, and I do NOT like artificial sweeteners. I guess my Sis and I will have to agree to disagree on this. (I’ve read the science behind why artificial anything isn’t good. That’s a topic for another blog post someday.)
While we wait, let’s feast on these delicious 37 calorie brownies! Do let us know your thoughts on these brownies. How is the taste? How is the consistency? Are they lacking anything by using lower calorie ingredients?
We’ve been spoiled this year with warm weather but living in Maine and New Hampshire, that is only going to last so long. I see winter in the forecast and Emily said it’s freezing up where she is. We are both geared up for the Get Healthy New Year Challenge so I thought we could use some alternatives to coffee, fun drinks for kids, and some tasty concoctions to help us forget we’ve only begun winter… [Read more…]
Chaga grows on birch trees near my home in northern Maine and is not very attractive, but the health benefits of chaga are extremely attractive. I have heard it said that we will find in nature what we need to maintain or heal our health. I’ve also heard that the things that heal us resemble what they’re curing. [Read more…]
