Cold nights make your body crave warm meals. One of our favorites is this American Chop Suey recipe. This recipe came right from our mom’s kitchen! This home cooked meal with hearty vegetables and sauce really warms your body up. It also satisfies appetites with only 6 Weight Watchers smart points per serving! Although this meal wasn’t created for Weight Watchers, it’s healthy enough to eat on any diet.
This recipe is also easily modified for vegetarian and gluten free diets. Swap out the ground turkey for brown lentils or tofu crumbles to make vegetarian-friendly American Chop Suey. Swap out the macaroni for the gluten free pasta of your choice and it becomes a hearty gluten-free meal. Yum!
With or without modifications, this tasty meal is a favorite in our house and I bet it will be in yours too. Try it tonight for dinner and make enough for leftovers tomorrow!
American Chop Suey
Ingredients
- 1 Medium Green Pepper chopped
- 1 Large Onion chopped
- 1 Pound Macaroni
- 29 Ounce Canned Diced Tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
- 66 Ounces Ragu Chunky Sauce with Tomato, Garlic & Onion
- 2 Packets Sweet n Low
- 2 Pounds Ground Turkey 99% Fat Free Browned and drained
Instructions
- Boil macaroni and cook according to package.
- Meanwhile, brown and drain ground turkey.
- Chop green pepper and onion. And add to the cooked ground turkey.
- Cook for 5 minutes, until onions and green pepper start to soften.
- Stir in remaining ingredients while macaroni cooks.
- Once macaroni is cooked and drain, add all ingredients back in to the large pot and stir together.
