Ingredients for Beef Asparagus Rolls
- Asparagus: Blanching the asparagus briefly ensures it remains tender but still crisp. Peeling and destemming the spears is optional but recommended for a smoother texture.
- Deli Roast Beef: Pre-sliced deli roast beef makes this recipe quick and easy. You can use other types of deli meat if preferred.
- Swiss Cheese: Adds a creamy texture and mild flavor that pairs well with the beef. Feel free to substitute with another type of cheese if desired.
- Oil: A small amount of oil is used for sautéing the rolls to achieve a golden-brown exterior.
- Horseradish & Mayonnaise: These two ingredients are combined to create a simple but flavorful aioli that complements the beef and asparagus.
- Salt, Pepper, Lemon Wedges: Seasoning is minimal, allowing the main ingredients to shine. Lemon wedges add a touch of acidity to enhance the overall flavor.
Tips & Tricks
- Blanching Asparagus: Be careful not to overcook the asparagus. A quick blanch in boiling water helps maintain its vibrant color and crisp texture.
- Rolling Technique: Rolling the asparagus inside the beef and cheese is easier if you lay everything flat on a cutting board. Secure with toothpicks to prevent unrolling while cooking.
- Cooking Time: Keep an eye on the rolls while sautéing. We use this sauté pan. You want the beef to be golden and slightly crispy but not overcooked.
Substitutions & Variations
- Meat Options: You can substitute the roast beef with turkey or ham for a different flavor profile.
- Cheese Alternatives: Swap Swiss cheese with provolone, mozzarella, or even cheddar based on your preference.
- Sauce Variations: If you’re not a fan of horseradish, try a Dijon mustard or a garlic aioli as an alternative dipping sauce.
What to Serve with Beef Asparagus Rolls
Beef Asparagus Rolls can be enjoyed on their own as a light meal or paired with a side salad for a more substantial dish. They also make a great appetizer for a larger meal, particularly when served with a dipping sauce like horseradish aioli.
Leftovers & Storage
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave, but be aware that the asparagus may lose some of its crispness upon reheating.
