Are you starting to get carrots from your garden or the farmers market and aren’t sure what to do with them? We talk about ways to preserve your harvest on Sisters Know Best but I have another way for you protein shake lovers. This carrot cake protein shake is one of my favorites! Carrots are great for your hair, nails, and eyes, so if you’ve got some picky eaters in the house, this might be a great way to get them the nutrients they need.
I love the moist, sweetness of real carrot cake and that same flavor is captured in the shake. White chocolate pudding mix and spices like nutmeg and cinnamon bring out the flavor of REAL carrots used in the shake. Plus, you get a protein boost in the bargain.
Did you know there’s a world carrot museum? Strange, but true facts right here on SKB Recipes! It’s in the UK and celebrates everything carrot. According to them, carrot cake dates all the way back to Medieval times. Back then, it was more a carrot pudding. Believe it or not, back then sweeteners like sugar and honey were not readily available, so carrots were used instead.
No one is really sure when it changed from pudding to cake, but we do know that in 1992, Molly O’Neill wrote her cookbook New York Cookbook that George Washington was served carrot cake tea in 1973 for British Evacuation Day at a tavern in lower Manhattan.
So when you take a sip of your carrot cake protein shake, just think – you might be ingesting the next generation of something eaten by one of our country’s founders. Pretty cool!
