Whatever you call it – a funky monkey smoothie or a funky monkey protein shake, this is my favorite of all! My two favorite flavors are banana and peanut butter and when you put them together… yum! This shake is like a peanut butter and banana sandwich without the bread. And it’s filling which is important for me no matter what diet or healthy eating I’m doing.
How to Make the Funky Monkey Protein Shake
This Funky Monkey Shake is so easy to make! I use my Ninja blender, so this takes about 5 minutes total to prepare. Grab your skim milk, ice cubes, protein powder, a banana, and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Throw it in the blender and blend for 1-2 minutes. Woalah! A filling and nutritious breakfast, snack or dessert!
What Type of Protein Powder Should You Use
When I started making it, I used Visalus, but quickly discovered this shake recipe works with any protein powder, so feel free to go ahead and use your favorite. Some options are Optavia, Dymatize Iso (what my boyfriend & I use now), or Premier Protein.
Variations to the Funky Monkey Smoothie or Shake
You know what else goes great with peanut butter and bananas? Chocolate! You can use chocolate protein powder or use 1 teaspoon of baking cocoa to add in chocolate flavor. When I used a chocolate protein powder to make this shake, it took it to a whole new level. Instead of tasting like an indulgent lunch sandwich, it tasted like a decadent dessert! Except without all the calories.
