I’m a lucky person – very lucky. I have two great-nieces that WANT to spend time with me! I live over three hours from them, but we still make it work for them to visit during their school vacation in the summer. (Did I mention one of them gets car sick??) Brooke and Kenzie enjoy sewing. I LOVE to sew! I thought it would be a great idea to make simple pajamas when they were here, but we also wanted to swim, hike, go on the boat, have campfires, make s’mores, play games, read books, do some baking. You know. All that “girl time” stuff. And we had THREE days to do it all. Guess what? We did do it ALL!! One of our favorite things was the sewing project for children.
Ok. It’s not really a homemade bug dope. It’s more like a DIY salve or DIY balm. It’s super easy to make, it’s natural, and it works! [Read more…]
Harvest time is here in my garden. I’ve kept up fairly well with my zucchini and tomatoes, but there’s a limit to how much one family can eat! There are easy ways to preserve garden vegetables for another time. And some of my ways are below!
I know you have seen the post about salads in a mason jar a thousand times already but this one is a little different. I tried the #Salads In A Jar the way others said to and no matter how many days they sat in the jars (1-6), they were still soggy. Even on day 1. I figured I better share how the salads in a jar worked best for me… let me know if you have other tips to make them even better.
Do you have #zucchini coming out of your ears? If you have a garden and it’s harvest time, then I’m sure the answer is yes! Every year my mother gives away tons and tons of zucchini to neighbors and friends. Even though she freezes, bakes and practically bathes in it, there is always MORE! For some reason, I can’t grow zucchini (the last 2 years) but luckily Emily can and we visited last week. Let the zucchini harvest games begin!
A few weeks ago I went for a fishing/kayaking trip with my guys. I brought a book. Love to kayak, but not so much on fishing. I’ll eat fish; I’ll cook fish; I’ll even flyfish, but I will not clean a fish. Ick! But this post is not about fish. [Read more…]
Hands down, this easy potato salad recipe is the best I’ve ever had… EVER. And I’m proud to say it was passed down from my mom. She’s one amazing cook and I’m glad I paid attention for this recipe. My family loves how creamy and flavorful it is and I love that it’s a healthy potato salad. I usually make a large amount for a party but below is a potato salad recipe for a small amount of people that serves 4-5. [Read more…]
Camping is one of our favorite things to do and I’ve done a lot of it. In fact, my family just got back from a camping trip in Maine if you would like to read about it on my other blog. The most important advice I have to offer: be prepared! Camping takes organization, preparation, and motivation to do the former two. Hopefully this list will help you have a relaxing and wonderful time on your camping trip. [Read more…]
We had such a great response from the post on our Facebook page about Clothespin Bags, we thought we better look in to them a little closer. These easy-to-make clothespin bags remind us of our grandparents’ house and camp and simpler times. When we go to Prince Edward Island there is no dryer. Up there you don’t need a dryer! It’s so windy, your clothes dry in a few hours out on the line. Because of your response on Facebook it made me push Emily to make one. She’s the crafty one. Below is Emily’s instruction and design. Go Em! [Read more…]
I had a visitor last week and wanted to have a backup plan in case of rainy weather. I was scrolling through Pinterest – a favorite thing of mine to do – and saw DIY paper lanterns. It had all the criteria – easy and affordable! The project was a huge success for us and the possibility of designs is limitless! I think doing a bunch of balloon designs for an evening birthday bash would be awesome! Wild explosions for the 4th of July! Dragonflies! Animals! ooooohhhh! [Read more…]
