Board (+ Card ) Game Love

Board Game Love

We love board games. On cool nights and lousy winter weekends, they’re a great way to spend time together laughing and bonding. On occasion, we’ll have friends over for a “game night.” There are so many genres of games, it’s easy to find something for everyone. Whether you like Trivia, Strategy, Memory or something else, there’s a board game for you. Today, we’re going to tell you about one of our new favorite card games – Quiddler!

Board Game Love

The Object

Similar to Scrabble, but with cards instead of a board and tiles, Quiddler is all about making words. There’s a draw pile and discard pile just like other card games. The basic idea is to make as many words as you can with your cards and to get as many points as possible.

The Pace

This game is fast paced! Unlike Scrabble where players may sit and think about words and placement for an extended period of time while also trying to plot out future moves and block their opponents, Quiddler limits players to using the cards in their hand. Although they can draw and discard on each turn, there’s a lot less to think through than there is in Scrabble, making a Quiddler game more fast paced.

How to Play Quiddler

Quiddler can be played with one to eight players. There is a total of eight rounds. In the first round, each player is dealt three cards. In each following round, they’re dealt one more card than the previous round, up to 10 cards per player. Players draw and discard round-robin style to create words of at least two letters using all the cards in their hand. The first person to do so gets 10 extra points.

Each remaining player draws one more card and puts down what they have. Points are awarded based on the total of each word using the numbers on the face of the cards. The player with the longest word gets 10 bonus points.

Why We Love Quiddler

We certainly love Scrabble, but we don’t always have the time or brain power for a full Scrabble game. Quiddler is a great alternative that we play while listening to music or chatting about our day.
